Demi Lovato has recently spoken out publicly against Time Magazine and their choice of “Person of the Year” runner-up.
The magazine chose none other than U.S. President Donald Trump, while at the same time praising those who break the silence against sexual assault.
According to Lovato, the juxtaposition of the two is hypocritical and out of place, and it was apparently in bad taste to put Trump there.
Lovato took to Twitter to share her thoughts on the situation, and she made several posts in which she explained her position in detail and made it clear why she believed this to be inappropriate from Time’s side.
She added that she has been trying to avoid giving a public voice to her complaints recently, but this was apparently too far for her, and she found it hard to resist saying something in this particular case.
She also seems to believe that some people have been wrongly omitted from the new cover of the magazine.
Lovato wrote: “Time mag highlights brave women coming forward against sexual assault on the cover but names a man with sexual assault allegations against him runner up to person of the year… Really @TIME? #hypocrites.”
It is worth pointing out that the meaning of Time’s “Person of the Year” title is not supposed to be exactly positive.
And there are plenty of cases where the magazine has chosen people with questionable actions for this.
The true meaning of “Person of the Year” is apparently supposed to refer to those who make some change in the world, be it good or bad, and it is hard to argue that Trump has been idle since taking the presidency.
The fact that his name has not stopped appearing in the press since day one pretty much speaks for itself.
