As Helena Bonham Carter And Olivia Colman Join Netflix’s ‘The Crown,’ Fans Hope The Series Will Avoid Gaffes Like Princess Cecile’s Death

According to recent comments about the Netflix show The Crown, the showrunners have apparently taken some serious liberties with history, and they have introduced their own “plot twists” which some apparently see as borderline insulting.

More specifically, the death of Princess Cecile is presented as something Prince Philip was directly responsible for when in reality she died in a plane crash.

The situation can be seen as even more insensitive once one looks back through history and examines the obvious pain Prince Philip faced from the disaster.

For some critics, this is positively insulting to the memory of Princess Cecile and everyone involved in the incident to suggest things that have never happened, and this has not gone unnoticed by observers.

It is worth noting that the scene does not imply a mastermind was plotting the death of the princess with a meticulous plan, but it still does leave a bad taste in one’s mouth, especially those who have been following history and are aware of the developments around the plane crash.

There has been no official response to the statements, and we are not sure if Netflix would even address what has been said in a way that does not make things any worse for them.

In the meantime, the show has been performing relatively okay on the screen, and it has been generating some positive feedback on other fronts.

Hopefully, it does not run into any more issues with its historical accuracy though, as this could be a massive blow to its popularity, and to that of Netflix as a whole in light of some other recent incidents.

Helena Bonham Carter will join Season 3 of The Crown as Princess Margaret. Olivia Colman was recently hired for the role of Queen Elizabeth for Season 3 and 4.

Claire Foy, who won many awards for the first two seasons, will not be returning as the Queen.
