Pop and R&B singer Ciara and her husband, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, have decided to invest in a new project.
The couple announced their intentions to try to bring Major League Baseball to Portland, Oregon by becoming the new partners for the local group, Portland Diamond Project.
The establishment of the Portland Diamond Project was officially presented to the world just recently, and its leading position is occupied by Craig Cheek, who has worked as a Nike executive in the past.
Cheek and Russell Wilson became acquaintances when the popular athlete signed to do some advertising for the famous brand.
Until now, no official financial details have been released, but according to rumors, all costs will be split equally among the participating partners. The general idea is that if the project is successful and MLB expands to Portland, the primary investors would become the leading favorites for owners of the newly-created franchise. The situation would be entirely different if an existing team had decided to move to The City of Roses.
Currently, the main plan for the partners is to find and acquire a suitable place in the local area, which can be used for a ballpark to be built on.
Ciara explained that athletics have always been important to her when growing up. The artist added that she was excited to be involved in bringing MLB to Portland, as well as inspiring more women to participate in major sports franchises.
For Wilson, this is not the first time he has been involved as an investor in such projects. His previous activities include an attempt to popularize basketball by bringing a NBA team to Seattle.
Saturday, Wilson released a video to prove that children in Portland are very interested in the idea of having a baseball in the area.
