A few years ago, former President Barack Obama faced a lot of trouble in the face of accusations that his birth certificate was forged, and that he was not in fact a natural-born U.S. citizen.
This was unsurprisingly brought to light around his run for president, and his successor, Donald Trump, was one of the leading supporters of the “birther” movement.
And while the accusations eventually died down as the media found other things to focus on, it looks like the movement itself actually still lives on and some people are more than happy to support it.
Corey Stewart, a Senate contender, made a tweet related to the birth certificate rumors a few days ago. The tweet sounded surprisingly similar to something Trump himself would write, prompting humorous responses in some communities.
@TheDemocrats got cocky forging @BarackObama birth certificate.
Thought they could slip phony #AllredYearbookFraud by on @MooreSenate.
Sad!!#ALSEN #alpolitics

As can be expected though, it did not provoke any response from Obama himself, and it is unlikely that the retired politician is paying any attention to the new chatter.
Obama has managed to handle that situation pretty well in the past, especially when it came to interacting with Trump, so there should be no doubts about his ability to withstand yet another cheap jab from a newcomer on the national political scene.
It just goes to show that some rumors just never die, and it is highly unlikely that we are going to see the end of this one anytime soon.
The political climate simply makes it too attractive for some not to bring this up, and they have been doing precisely that.
In an ironic twist, controversial Virginia GOP rising star E.W. Jackson, who is running against Stewart in the primary, launched his candidacy this week with an attack linking the Obama critic to the Muslim Brotherhood.
Birtherism was at its roots a form of bigotry because those who pushed the conspiracy also suggested that Obama is Muslim.
Jackson stated: “My understanding is that Corey has had some dealings with some of the members of the Muslim Brotherhood. If that proves to be the case, then we’re going to clearly draw that distinction.”
It seems that Stewart will have to do more than a little bit of Obama bashing to get ahead in the race to unseat Democratic Senator Tim Kaine.
