As The Matt Lauer Scandal Leaves The Headlines, Some Hoped His Former ‘TODAY’ Colleague Katie Couric Said More

The number of incidents related to sexual misconduct involving former TODAY co-anchor Matt Lauer grew quite a bit in the past month, and his former colleague, Katie Couric, briefly addressed the issue after an old video went viral.

In a 2012 interview, Couric said Lauer likes to pinch her bottom. Before the clip gained attention, Couric had been quiet on the issue, and many were wondering when she would decide to say something.

However, those who were hoping for a more in-depth response that answers some of the pressing questions will likely be disappointed, as all Couric had to say was that the whole situation had been “incredibly upsetting” for her and that she will say more in the future when she feels ready to.

She wrote in response to someone on social media who called her a hypocrite for not addressing the matter sooner: “It’s incredibly upsetting and I will say something when I’m ready to. Thanks for your interest.”

It is probably understandable why she would not want to address the problem publicly right away, especially with all the attention that were focused on Lauer, but hopefully, she also does not wait too long to reveal her truth, as it may be too late by then.

A lot has already happened to Lauer, and it is clear that his career has suffered permanently, but, some critics say it would be good if he was forced to face the full extent of what he has done, instead of letting him get away on some points.

The scandal dominated the news for weeks, and there will likely be more interesting developments to come, so those who have been following the Lauer’s fall from grace with interest will probably still want to keep an eye out for new twists.

It is very likely that we have only seen the tip of the iceberg here, and there could be some significant additional revelations in the future.

Couric and Lauer worked together on the morning program for 15 years and always had a close relationship.
