Actor Johnny Galecki shocked reporters with the revelation that The Big Bang Theory would most likely end with its 12th season.
The star made this claim on Saturday while attending the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena, California.
He admitted that everyone from the cast would be very sad when the show ends, but also added that 12 seasons are quite enough for a TV show and a good stopping point.
The comedy sitcom is currently airing its 11th season with stars in the cast such as Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, and Mayim Bialik.
Also, even though The Big Bang Theory is near its end, fans should not be falling into despair; as a spin-off of the show, Young Sheldon has just started and is doing well.
Young Sheldon is about the life of character Sheldon Cooper as a 9-year-old child in East Texas. With most of the episodes from the first season being already aired, it was announced on Saturday that CBS has approved the second season of the spin-off.
The leading roles for the cast are given to Iain Armitage (younger Sheldon), Zoe Perry (Sheldon’s mother), and Lance Barber (George Cooper Sr., Sheldon’s father), who has previously appeared in one episode of The Big Bang Theory in a totally different part.
According to CBS President Kelly Kahl, the spin-off sitcom has gathered a lot of momentum and is even ranked at leading positions on the charts among viewers.
Even though Young Sheldon originated from The Big Bang Theory, it now has a place of its own in the TV universe. The show relies on creativity, good writing, and a decent multi-generational cast.
Some TV experts say that Galecki’s statement may be part of a negotiation tactic and the show could continue beyond 2019 if the Eye Network is willing to make a little effort with the salaries.
