When controversy started brewing around Donald Trump in light of his recent comment regarding “shithole countries,” many expected that the president would prefer to lay low and avoid answering any questions about the situation directly.
In fact, many suspected that he would not even care about the controversy at all, and would move on with his job as usual.
And while he has not made any public statements yet, reports indicate that Trump has indeed commented on the situation in private, and has expressed no remorse over what he said.
According to the same reports, the U.S. president just believes that he is saying what is on the minds of many people at the moment, and he sees nothing wrong with that.
He also denied having any racism in his attitude and implied that it is the media’s fault that people perceive him in this way. Given his past remarks about specific countries and nationalities though, it is hard to agree with this point of view.
Many people have expressed their outrage over Trump’s latest remark, and the negativity probably will not stop for a while.
At the same time, Trump has been trying to avoid engaging people publicly about the issue, as many suspected he would.
However, his statements made in private could still end up harming his image whether he expects them to or not.
There is only too much attention focused on him right now, and everything he says is amplified and examined under a microscope. Even a small statement can grow into something much more controversial.
People close to the president are playing defense in the media arguing that the president is a truth teller and he is just fighting for the American people.
However, critics say that the part of the statement about Norway was the most troublesome because it was a form of discrimination based on race.
