Joy Behar Was Hospitalized After ‘Avocado Hand’ Incident — ‘The View’ Co-Host Opens Up About Ordeal Like Andi Dorfman

Joy Behar, co-host of The View on ABC, talked about her unexpected avocado incident during the show’s Tuesday episode.

Apparently, the TV personality severely cut her hand while trying to slice an avocado and was even forced to miss going to work on Monday.

On Saturday, the 75-year-old was traveling to an event, and a sudden hunger attack got her searching for the nearest food as fast as possible. As a result, the star stabbed herself with the knife during her efforts to remove the avocado pit.

Behar was hospitalized for a night, and the medics took the necessary precautions to secure the wound from potential infections. The comedian was told that incidents like hers were quite common.

Apparently, it was so regular for the medics to receive patients with cut hands, that the avocado victims were called to have suffered from a syndrome called “avocado hand.” Behar further explained that it can affect people who are planning to eat bagels too.

Behar maintained a positive attitude and seemed entertained when talking about her incident, even though she had suffered a lot of pain.

However, she still laughed when she was given a safety glove and avocado slicer by her panelists to avoid such ordeals in the future.

The hostess even joked that for the time being, she would leave the avocado dicing to Rachael Ray and would only buy pre-made guacamole.

Behar is far from the first celebrity who became a victim of the avocado. Actress Meryl Streep also suffered from a wound inflicted while she was cutting an avocado back in 2012.

Former Bachelorette Andi Dorfman revealed last week that she has faced with the same ordeal. Dorfman was forced to have surgery in order to put the incident behind her.

The reality TV star tried to handle it all with humor just like Behar did.
