According to recent reports, it appears the tumultuous relationship between stand-up comedian Chris Hardwick and actress Chloe Dykstra was much more different than people would have guessed.
Just recently, the actress stated in an emotional essay that she had suffered mental and physical abuse from her partner for the three years they dated.
Hardwick fiercely denied the accusations. Meanwhile, some old messages that the two celebrities had exchanged in the past came to the surface.
The texts revealed that the reason the couple ended their relationship back in 2014 was that Dykstra was not faithful to Hardwick.
Apparently, after Hardwick found out about the cheating, he broke up with the actress by sending her a lengthy message where he explained his hurt feelings.
In Hardwick’s text, it becomes clear that the couple was already going through some hard times, but he had chosen to end the romance because of Dykstra’s involvement with someone called Sam.
In response to the breakup letter, the actress pleaded to Hardwick to be heard and talked about what happened.
After he did not answer back, she finally accepted the defeat and simply sent him one final message saying “I will always love you.”
The actress renewed her efforts to save their relationship when she contacted the comedian again seven months later, asking him when they were going to be okay.
Even though Dykstra did not mention the name of her abuser in her essay, her text made it pretty evident that it was aimed at Hardwick.
Friends of the 46-year-old comedian responded to the essay by claiming they did not believe their friend was capable of such violence.
Some commenters have suggested that this might be a turning point in the #MeToo movement, a case where the accuser seems to be missing some critical elements in the story.
However, the actress has thanked her supporters on social media on Wednesday.
In the meantime, the comedian lost many gigs.
